Volunteer Opportunities are happening now with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Victoria Capital Region! We have a few single-event volunteer opportunities coming up such as:
Special Collections Events – join us on Saturdays from 10am – 2pm as we host mobile community collections events – collecting clothing, collectibles, small furniture, and household items in various locations across southern Vancouver Island. Upcoming mobile community collection events include Saturday October 29th from 10am – 2pm at Save On Foods Fort & Foul Bay. We also have longer term volunteer commitments such as: Online Marketplace & Auction – If you are interested in recycling donated goods to keep them out of the landfill then join our Online Marketplace team at our 230 Bay Street location! Members of this team will gain experience in selecting items of value from our intake of donations, photograph these items, write thorough descriptions, determine pricing, and post these items on primarily Facebook Marketplace. We offer flexible scheduling, with options of volunteering five days a week from 10am – 5pm (any shift, any time), and ask for a minimum commitment of 4 – 6 months. Training will be provided. With your help, Big Brothers Big Sisters is able to raise funds for our mentoring programs! Call Center – If you are interested in gaining reception experience, join our Call Center team at our 230 Bay Street location! Members of this team will answer oncoming calls from the public and provide the required customer service for their needs, make targeted outbound phone calls regarding our Special Collections Events, Community Yard Sale Events and more! We offer flexible scheduling, with options of volunteering five days a week from 10am – 5pm (any shift, any time), and ask for a minimum commitment of 4 – 6 months. Training will be provided. These positions are great for individuals who are community driven or seeking those extra volunteer hours for graduation. Step Up Youth Program – The Step Up Youth volunteer program is designed to support youth who are interested in learning about a career in healthcare. Priority will be given to youth who participated in our virtual program, and we are recruiting for a limited number of volunteer positions for the following Island Health Facilities: Saanich Peninsula Hospital, Royal Jubilee Hospital, Capacity is limited for the upcoming school year. We are currently looking for student Activity Assistant volunteers at our site. The Activity Assistant supports the Activity Coordinator by working with residents as they engage in arts, crafts, and exercise.
