Event Updates for January 2021
(Registration for these events available on Tours and Events page)

1)     Parent Night (Jan. 14): Led by Dr. Lisa Surridge, Associate Dean Academic - Faculty of Humanities, Parent Night provides information to parents/guardians that can help them prepare their student for the transition to post-secondary studies. These sessions have been very popular so far and I’d encourage parents/guardians to attend.
2)     Discover UVic sessions (Jan 18 and 27): These general recruitment presentations are oriented toward your undecided grade 12 students still deciding where/whether/how to apply and keen grade 11 students doing some planning for next year.
3)      “I Want to Be in Theatre” Open House (Jan. 16th): For those students interested in studying Theatre and exploring whether Theatre at UVic is where they want to be (or not to be). This is a fantastic opportunity to check out a live rehearsal, connect with Faculty and current students and learn more about the opportunities available in Theatre at UVic.
With our application deadline approaching on January 31st and self-reporting opening February 15th, this will be a busy time of year with many application-related questions. Don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions that you and your students may have.

Some additional notes to keep in mind:
·        Application deadline: The application deadline for all programs is January 31st.  Late applications may be considered for some programs.
·        Changing program on submitted application: Students looking to change the program they have applied to should email their admission assistant by March 1st.  It is highly recommended they request the change prior self-reporting.
Pro Tip: They should indicate that the email is regarding a program change in the subject line of the email and please ask your students to include their Applicant ID or their V number.
·        Self-reporting open from February 15 - March 15: “Self Reporting 101” information sessions will be held throughout February to assist students navigate the self-reporting process. I strongly advise all applicants to participate in one of these virtual sessions. Registration will be available on the Tours and Events section of our site.
·        Virtual Appointments for students and their families: While we’re always happy to answer emails and take calls to answer questions, prospective students have the option to book a 30-minute virtual appointment with their student recruiter at any time. Students can explore appointment availability and book their time slot here.

I would like to take this opportunity to let you know that we have officially launched the 2021 WorkSafeBC Student Safety Video Contest. Please feel free to share this information with students and teachers. There is $10,000 in prize money up for grabs, to be shared by students and their schools. Your assistance in helping to spread word of the contest is very much appreciated!

The contest is now open and we invite students to submit their entries any time between now and the deadline.
Here are some important points about this year’s contest:

  • The contest website, including full details, rules, and the contest entry form can be found here
  • The contest promotes the positive role that youth can have in preventing the spread of COVID-19
  • A poster that can be printed and posted in schools or emailed to students/teachers is attached
  • The theme of this year’s contest is I am doing my part (focused on how young workers can do their part to stop the spread of COVID-19 and other infectious diseases in the workplace)
  • Contest is open to students in grades 8-12
  • To ensure health protocols are followed, students must work independently and film the videos themselves rather than as part of a team. These self-filmed entries can be live action, documentary-style, animation, stop motion…whatever creative style that students can imagine!
  • Entries are to be submitted by the teacher sponsor
  • Contest deadline is 5 pm, Wednesday, March 31, 2021
Again, complete contest details, including the rules and entry form, can be found on the Student Safety Video Contest web page, linked above.
